Welcome to Independent Action
Independent Action is a Political Action Committee that funds progressive Democrats challenging Republican incumbents or running for open seats to Congress. Founded in 1981 by Representative Morris Udall (D-AZ) and Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) as a progressive response to the rise of Reagan, Independent Action has been an influential force in Democratic politics for over a quarter of a century.
Our mission is a unique one. While most political fundraising is geared towards re-electing incumbents, Independent Action is committed to electing new progressive voices and turning Republican-held seats into Democratic ones. That said, we also support a handful of our most vulnerable progressive freshmen Members each cycle to ensure that our best voices are protected.
So while most Democratic PACs and committees do the important work of electing all kinds of Democrats, we focus on electing the progressive kind of Democrats.
